The new Sony X-series are for people with hearing impairment – or those who want to. They are certainly not for leisurely listening to Tchaikovsky, although they may do the Blues Brothers some justice.
No, they are party animals. In true Sony style, no detailed specs are available, so you will have to wait for a review before we know how they sound.
Sony X-series – what we know
SRS-XG500
- Front-firing woofer 2 x 11cm and Tweeter 2 x 2.5cm (use landscape mode)
- LED-lit passive bass radiators are each end

- We assume that the casing acts as a passive bass radiator

SRS-XP700
- Front-firing woofer 2 x 17cm, front-firing Tweeter 3 x 6cm, rear-firing 1 x 5cm (use in portrait or landscape although Sony calls it Omnidirectional Party Sound). Sony claims punchy and deep bass.

All have Fiestable LED controls, work with the Sony Music App (with an EQ).
These can sync with up to 100 compatible Sony Party Connect speakers (SRS-XB43, SRS-XB33, SRS-XB23, SRS-XG500, SRS-XP500, SRS-XP700). You can stereo pair the SRS-XP700 and SRS-SP500
Note that maximum volume is higher on mains power than on battery. USB playback is sequential from the root directory.
GadgetGuy’s take
We have not reviewed the Sony X-series and can’t comment on the sound signature. These are mono BT speakers with Extra-Bass and Live Sound features.
Initial reports are that they are loud and suited for ‘backyard’ outdoor use, but you don’t buy them for audiophile use.
