Sony’s debut Tablet S heads to stores

Sony’s debut Android tablet is finally ready, with the company announcing that the Tablet S will be heading to stores today.

Starting from $579, the Tablet S packs in a dual-core NVidia Tegra 2, processor WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, 5 megapixel rear camera, 0.3 megapixel front camera, Bluetooth 2.1, an SD card slot, microUSB, and storage options of 16 or 32GB, competing with current offerings from other manufacturers.

Different to everything else, however, is the screen size, sitting at a slightly smaller 9.4 inches while still offering a nice 1280×800 to work with.

Sony has also equipped this tablet with an infrared port, with software thrown in designed to let you use the tablet as a remote control for your home theatre. That alone is a unique feature that we’ve yet to see on any other tablet.
