Stan gets a little help from Friends with WB deal

Netflix may well be the juggernaut streaming solution that everyone wants access to, but Fairfax’s Stan isn’t doing badly either, and to help it, the service should be getting a boost in content.

New TV shows are on the way to Stan subscribers, with Warner Bros signing a deal with the streaming media provider to add shows both new and old, as well as a few movies to the catalogue of content.

We’re told this includes all 236 episodes of “Friends”, meaning you’ll be able to sit down and watch a good three days straight of the sitcom when it arrives in October, while also getting access to other shows in the agreement, including “The OC”, “Fringe”, and “The West Wing”.

That’s a selection of the old TV shows arriving, though we’re told new television will also be a part of the package, adding “iZombie” in August with fast-tracking for the second season in October, while both “Constantine” and “The Following” will try and tempt action and thrill seekers.

“Our partnership with Warner Bros. is the most significant since launch in terms of bringing outstanding, exclusive premiere shows and some of the most popular TV series of all time to Stan,” said Nick Forward, Content and Product Director at Stan.

“By adding hundreds of hours of new content to Stan’s lineup, the deal further cements our position as the SVOD service with the highest quality and largest library of content in Australia.”

We’re not quite sure that last comment is necessarily spot on, and we’d leave it to audiences to decide, as they certainly have the ability to, now that Stan is out there competing with the other major players, including Netflix and Presto.

In any case, you’ll find the WB additions to Stan rolling out gradually throughout the year, starting this month. Stan, meanwhile, can be accessed for $10 per month through iOS and Android devices.
