This week, Fox gave GadgetGuy a brief look at the six Star Was movies coming to Blu-ray, complete with over 40 hours of special features including never-before-seen content.
Available as a complete nine disc set, “Star Wars: The Complete Saga” includes all six Star Wars titles in Full HD 1080p with 6.1 DTS Surround Sound. Fans of the film franchise will love the extras, with loads of interviews, deleted scenes, extended scenes, documentaries, and even spoofs of the franchise appearing on the three special features discs.
One of the included documentaries is something that has been seen by only a few thousand people up until now. “Thirty Years Later: A Conversation with the Masters” is a documentary commissioned by George Lucas for the 30th anniversary of Empire Strikes Back and shown only a few times since its initial showing in 2010.
In fact, over one hundred short interview pieces were filmed with the makers of the Star Wars movies for the Blu-ray release, detailing the sets, props, characters, and more.
It’s not just special features that have been lumped in with the film, however, as the Lucasfilm team has been busy polishing the film up and making the audio just that much better.
Matthew Wood, one of the Sound Supervisors at Skywalker Sound where the audio remastering has been worked on, told us that work on the Blu-ray release began in 2007.
“It was like a balancing act to basically get the mix right for how people emotionally remember it, even though the majority of people saw Episode 4 in mono when it first came out,” said Wood.
“We didn’t want to do that. We wanted to make it like the prequels and have it be at least 6.1, [while] preserving the emotional impact that the mixes had in the seventies and the eighties.”
Star Wars: The Complete Saga arrives in stores on September 14, 2011 for $144.95 RRP.
