Stay safe: keep up-to-date

Yesterday we wrote about how important it was to have security software on your computer. While many people know this, one thing people often don’t think about is keeping that protection up-to-date.

Believe it or not, many people assume that just because they have security software, they’re automatically protected. That’s simply not the case.

Neither an expired trial nor a finished one-year subscription can protect you from current and future viruses. Security threats are an always evolving with more hazards popping up every day.

“The reality is that there’s a big difference between what’s going on compared to people’s perceptions in what the threats are,” says David Hall, Symantec’s Regional Product Marketing Manager for South Pacific and Asia.

“Last year, we blocked over 2.4 million unique pieces of malware. That’s a huge amount of things that need to be kept up with, and anti-virus by itself is not enough to defend you against today’s cyber criminal threats.”

Not only are you protecting your computer’s data, but you’re also making sure your identity isn’t stolen. With new dangers being created every day, you simply can’t rely on software that isn’t up to date.
