The Swann solar panel works with any brand of micro-USB powered security camera. The difference is that this solar panel produces 5.7V/1A (5.7W). That is nearly three times the output of its competitor’s product.
Swann’s current wireless security cameras typically come with a 6,000mAh battery. So, the solar panel should charge from 0-100% in under 10 hours. The wattage should be sufficient to top-up and get over extended periods of long cloudy days.
“Consumers are increasingly looking to add products to the home that are convenient, affordable and environmentally friendly,” said Jeremy Stewart, Vice President of Global Marketing at Swann.
“The Solar Panel and the Swann Smart Security Camera ticks all these boxes. The new Solar Panel takes advantage of solar energy and recharges your camera’s battery on the go. This means homeowners and renters can maintain 24/7 security.”
Swann Solar panel use
The weather-proof panel measures 241(W) x 191(H) x 20(D)mm (plus a mounting bracket). It has a 3m micro-USB charging cable allowing for some mounting flexibility.
It is best mounted where it will receive maximum direct sunlight. That is relatively flat on a roof or wall with an unobstructed view of the sky. Just look around to see the orientation of other solar panels on nearby houses.
It includes an adjustable bracket to let you change the angle to suit the seasons. There is an instruction video here.
It will work with any brand of micro-USB charged security camera. GadgetGuy will be reviewing this panel soon.
