First a segue to ‘Doing a Dyson’. In 2016 Dyson took its first steps into the beauty world with the Dyson Supersonic hairdryer. His $499 hairdryer took the fashion world by storm – both for its exorbitant price and because this new way to protect, dry and style hair actually works.
GadgetGirl’s review led to GadgetGuy having to buy one for her. Since then her hair is fuller and more lustrous as hair, damaged by cheap and hot hairdryers, grown out.
Part of the attraction was that Dyson, in typical fashion, was ‘Doing a Dyson’ by finding a better way.
It invested and continues to invest in extensive hair science research. Its knowledge about hair and expanding its research facilities around the world has helped it understand the nuances of different hair types.
This new attachments enable the Dyson Supersonic hairdryer to style better while continuing to protect hair from extreme heat damage – irrespective to whether your hair is straight, wavy, curly or coily.
Gentle air dryer:
Engineered for fast yet gentle styling for fine hair and sensitive scalps, while also helping to prevent colour fade.
Wide-tooth comb:
The teeth have a large soft radius. This facilitates a balance of evenness of flow distribution across the attachment. This is more comfortable and gentler on the scalp while enabling even drying. The teeth are held together by a flexible torsion bar. This enables effective detangling while allowing the teeth to conform naturally to the shape of the scalp in-use.
The Dyson Supersonic hair dryer costs $549. The new Comb is $49.
Dyson has also developed a professional use version for salon stylists. It has a longer cord, stronger magnetic attachments, larger filter and designed for high volume use.
Dyson has invested almost £100 million in the development of the Dyson Supersonic hairdryer and Dyson Airwrap styler. It took 103 engineers four years and over 600 prototypes resulting in 100+ patents pending.
