LG updates the V30 to a V30+ ThinQ

V30S ThinQ

LG’s V30 took GadgetGuy’s heart declaring “To that end, it ticks all the flagship boxes, and then some. It is a solid contender for the best flagship of the year.” Well, the V30+ ThinQ is even better.

And all it takes is a firmware update to take the V30 to a V30+ ThinQ. Well done LG.

Why is the V30+ ThinQ different?

New AI technologies are in the most commonly used features closely aligned to users needs and usage behaviour.

ThinQ was introduced at CES 2018. It links all of LG’s home appliances, consumer electronics and services that utilise a form of artificial intelligence. LG’s vision for ThinQ is to promote artificial intelligence that over time is an approachable and less intimidating technology.

Other features include:

Vision AI: Making Photography Intuitive

Vision AI includes three new intelligent camera features: AI CAM; QLens; and Bright Mode. These automate and enhance the smartphone image capturing the experience for the novice as well as experienced shutterbugs.

AI CAM analyses subjects in the frame and recommends the optimal shooting mode among eight categories: portrait, food, pet, landscape, city, flower, sunrise, and sunset. Each mode enhances the characteristics of the subject considering factors such as the viewing angle, colour, reflections, lighting, and saturation level.

QLens takes further advantage of the image recognition capabilities of the AI technology to scan QR codes to improve the online shopping experience. Capture an item of interest with QLens to help you get information as to various places from where to buy the product online at the low prices as well as recommendations for similar items. Perform an image search with QLens to see matching or similar images of food, fashion and celebrities or information of landmarks such as buildings and statues.

Low light photography on the LG V30+ ThinQ gets a huge boost with Bright Mode. Instead of measuring only ambient light like most smartphone cameras, this AI feature uses algorithms to brighten images by a factor of two for better-looking photos without the noise.

Voice AI: Turbocharged Google Assistant

With voice command support for over 50 functions, QVoice can be used to perform the most frequently used tasks without even unlocking the smartphone. Working in conjunction with Google Assistant, 32 LG-exclusive Voice AI commands allow for direct activation of the most popular functions without having to tap through multiple menu options. Voice AI even allows users to control functions not supported by Google Assistant.

More Memory, More Storage, More Colours

The LG V30S ThinQ takes the “flagship” nomenclature to a new level with upgraded features that would satisfy even the most demanding customer. With 6GB of RAM, smooth multitasking and faster performance are virtually guaranteed, and storage capacities of 128GB means you never run out of space. There is even microSD storage, up to 2TB.

Still one of the thinnest and lightest among smartphones with displays of 6 inches or more, the LG V30+ ThinQ is no slouch in the toughness and durability category, having passed 14 MIL-STD 810G tests approved by the US Department of Defence.

The New Moroccan Blue colour of LG V30+ ThinQ has been updated with a green tint. it features a lenticular finish on the back that displays different hues under certain lighting conditions.

Expanding the Smartphone AI Experience

The AI suite of technologies in the LG V30+ ThinQ is the just the beginning of the company’s renewed strategy to create more intelligent smartphones that put consumers’ needs above all else.

“Many companies talk about AI. LG is already delivering on our promise by integrating intelligent technology in the LG V30+ ThinQ to features most commonly used by our customers. This gives a new level of convenience never before available in a smartphone of this calibre,” said Hwang Jeong-hwan, president and CEO of LG Mobile Communications Company. “And we will continue to introduce new AI capabilities to enhance usability. We are committed to delivering a great user experience that continues long after the purchase of an LG phone.”
