Panasonic’s 4K Lumix gets a price, brings UHD shooting to more hands

Unsure about if you should invest in a new 1080p Full HD video camera when 4K is right around the corner? We know the feeling, and Panasonic seems to as well, announcing that its first 4K mirror-less won’t cost more than $2000.

One of the last camera companies that will actually tell us pricing — we’re looking at you, Nikon and Canon — Panasonic has gotten in contact to tell us that the GH4 mirror-less capable of shooting in Ultra HD compatible 4K resolution will be priced at $1999 locally.

That’s the body only price, with a 12-35mm f/2.8 lens and body fetching an extra grand ($2999), or an extra two thousand coins grabbing the body with Panasonic’s Interface Unit built to speed up the workflow.

The new camera won’t just be for shooting 4K videos, mind you, and will feature Full HD support (of course), as well as a 16 megapixel sensor, OLED technology for the displays, and shooting speeds of up to 12 frames per second.

Panasonic also has a new lens coming, with one made for people who like shooting in low light.

The new piece of glass has a long name and a low aperture rating of 1.7, with the “Leica DG Summilux 15mm / f1.7 ASPH” built to be light, slim, and capable of firing shots in the darkest of places.

A price of $799 has been applied to this lens with an availability of June, while the Panasonic Lumix GH4 will see stores in May from $1999.
