Targeted squarely at millennials, the newly announced Lego Pokémon sets have generated plenty of buzz. Original favourites Pikachu, Eevee, Charizard, Venasaur, and Blastoise have all been immortalised in brick form, but the price is the biggest talking point.

Lego dropped a trailer for the new Lego sets overnight, poking fun at elder Pokémon fans’ adult woes of taxes and back pain. You can add another dilemma to that list: the set that includes the original generation’s starter evolutions costs $999.99.

It comes with nearly 7,000 pieces, so it’s a lot of build time for your cash. Still, reading the comments on Lego’s socials paints a picture of frustrated fans. But it’s not all doom and gloom: the cute Lego Eevee set is $99.99, the same price as last year’s replica Game Boy, while the Pikachu and Poké Ball set costs $299.99.

All three Lego sets are scheduled to release in Australia on 27 February.
