Of all the new tech to be excited about, you might not think a light switch would warrant a mention. Yet, here we are, keen to see more of the Aqara Smart Wall Switch H2 in action.
Built to be a platform-agnostic controller for your smart devices, it’s not just a light switch. It can turn lights on and off, but to solely use the switch for that would be like driving a Ferrari just to get groceries.
Compatible with smart home platforms like Matter, Zigbee, and Thread, the Aqara Smart Wall Switch H2 is customisable to work with devices using those same technologies. That means it doesn’t matter if you use Apple’s, Google’s, or Amazon’s smart devices — or anything else that works with them — they’re all interoperable with Aqara’s ecosystem.
When hardwired into your home, one switch can control lights physically. Meanwhile, another switch can be programmed to control IoT devices wirelessly. To give you more options, you can program the switch to perform a different task for single presses or long presses.
For example, a single press of the programmable switch could turn on an air conditioning unit, while a double press might unlock a smart door. And then a long press could activate an automation that opens the blinds and turns off the lights, letting natural light take over.
There’s already a vertical configuration of Aqara’s smart switches in Australia, with a horizontal design to follow. Aqara says the horizontal switch layout will arrive in October, close to its upcoming FP300 smart sensor.
Available in different configurations of switches and wireless channels, the Aqara Smart Wall Switch H2 starts at $109 in Australia.
