Short-throw projectors are the big thing in home projection right now. It’s a logical trend, too, in that old-school projectors used to require enough room to beam up a big-screen image. Fortunately, for those seeking the cinema experience at home, that’s no longer necessary. Enter the latest short-throw projector: the Epson EH-LS670B.

A 4K projector capable of producing an image up to 120 inches in size, the Epson EH-LS670B comes to Australia for $4,199. That’s a bit more affordable than Epson’s recent 300-inch projector or its whopping 1,000-inch model that retails for $24,999.

According to the new projector’s European online listing, it requires between 30cm and 70cm of space, depending on how big you want the resulting image. That’s pretty decent, meaning you could reasonably fit it on most TV cabinets if you don’t have a dedicated projector mount.

Taking advantage of laser projection technology and its 3LCD chips, the Epson EH-LS670B reaches up to 3,600 lumens of brightness. On paper, that’s surprisingly brighter than the 2,200-lumen EH-LS9000B model that costs a few thousand more dollars.

Epson doesn’t list the full colour spectrum details on its Australian website, other than to say the EH-LS670B supports full 10-bit and up to 1.07 billion colours. That’s the same spec as the EH-LS9000B projector, suggesting that this model covers 100 per cent of the RGB spectrum.

Epson’s new projector also doubles as a smart media hub, coming with Google TV installed. In addition to the built-in streaming support, the EH-LS670B includes a 2.1-channel Bose speaker system and three HDMI ports for external inputs.

It’s available in Australia starting today, via Epson directly and local projector retailers.
