Another big Chinese phone brand is set to make waves locally, with Honor bringing its ultra-thin Magic V5 foldable to Australia. It’s the second Chinese manufacturer to make a big Australian play in recent months, following Xiaomi’s official launch.

At just 8.8mm thin when folded like a book, Honor’s foldable aims to take the crown currently belonging to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7, which is still an incredibly thin 8.9mm. An early advantage claimed by the Honor Magic V5 is its price: $2,599 compared to Samsung’s $2,899 starting price.

Looking at its screens, the Magic V5’s external display measures 6.43 inches, while the inner display spans 7.95 inches. Honor says that the foldable supports up to three-app multitasking courtesy of its large display area.

On the inside is 16GB of memory and 512GB of internal storage, alongside a 5820mAh silicon-carbon battery. Turn the phone around to the back, and you’ll see a 50MP main camera, a 64MP telephoto sensor, and a 50MP wide-angle shooter.

In addition to the Magic V5, Honor is also bringing the $999 400 Pro model to Australia. Honor’s press release didn’t include as many details about the mid-range phone, other than confirming it has a 5300mAh battery and 512GB of onboard storage.

Both phones run on Honor’s MagicOS platform, which includes variations of common AI features, like translations, text summaries, and image editing.

Joining the phones are the $599 Honor Pad 10 tablet, the $249 Honor Watch 4 wearable, and the $199 Honor Choice Earbuds Clip. Australian retailers will start stocking the local Honor range from 4 December this year.
