How to clean your TV screen

You spend thousands of dollars on a large flat-screen TV that you watch for hours each week, but how many of you clean it? Hands up, that was me. That’s not because I am lazy, mind you, as I did occasionally wipe the screen over with a clean microfibre cloth. It was more about being worried I would damage the screen.

Now, you should never clean your screen with alcohol or ammonia-based products, and these ingredients are common in most everyday household cleaners. A safer option is to dampen your microfibre cloth with water, but really, this never properly does the job.

Pro cleaning with WHOOSH!

WHOOSH! is a product that has been available for years in overseas markets, and has just started selling in Australia. I had my first go with it on two TV screens and two laptops, and was horrified by how much dirt came off on the cloth. Needless to say, my screens were not clean. I was also very impressed by how it cleaned away fingerprints. You can literally feel a resistance in the cloth when you rub over a fingerprint, and after a few quick rubs, they are gone.

The liquid is non-toxic and not only removes smudges, dirt, and fingerprints, but also bacteria.

The WHOOSH! process involves your grubby screen, a shine liquid in a pump spray bottle, and a microfibre cloth. You spray the liquid onto cloth – not the screen – wipe the cloth over the screen, then turn the cloth over to its dry side and give your screen a second buff.

Pricing and availability

WHOOSH! also does a great job on your glasses, providing (subjectively) a much better than the spray you get from your optometrist. With that in mind, although you can buy an 8ml kit with cloth for $20, the sweet spot for most homes will probably be the $46 kit. This comes with a 100ml bottle, an 8ml bottle, and two cloths.

WHOOSH! wipes are also available, with a pack of wipes and a microfibre cloth costing $20. These would be handy for a spring clean of TV, car, phone, and computer screens.

WHOOSH! screen cleaning kits are available from their online store.
