Rivalling the biggest phones on the market, Motorola has announced the Moto G06, coming with the largest display of the brand’s budget range yet.

It’s an interesting launch, considering the Moto G05 only arrived in Australia earlier this year. If you were to put both phones side-by-side, you’d notice a striking size difference. Motorola opted to go even bigger, with the Moto G06 display measuring 6.88 inches, up from its predecessor’s 6.7-inch screen.

Price-wise, the Moto G06 is on par with the G05, retailing for $179 postpaid or $149. When bought with a Vodafone plan, the handset costs less than $35 in device payments over 24 or 36 months

Even with that low price tag, it’s notable that Motorola’s latest budget phone doesn’t include any major operating system updates. Shipping with Android 15, the phone won’t get Android 16 or anything after that.

Instead, the Moto G06 gets two years of regular security updates. As reviewer Adam Turner noted when testing the Moto G05, that’s conspicuously less than the one annual Android update and three years of security updates included with some of Motorola’s older phones.

Other than the larger display, the new entry-level Moto has near-identical specs to the previous phone. It comes with the same MediaTek Helio G81 Extreme chipset, 4GB of physical RAM, and 64GB of internal storage.

Motorola has improved the durability, though. Built with Corning Gorilla Glass 3, the G06 sports an IP64 “water-resistant” build. For comparison, the G05 only had an IP52 rating. In other words, the new phone better withstands dust while holding up to water splashes.

Motorola’s partnership with Pantone also continues, providing colour options including Tapestry, Arabesque, and Tendril. Or to use plain English: dark blue-green, orange, and green.

The postpaid Moto G06 model is available now in Australia. Those keen on the prepaid model need to wait until 21 October, after which it’ll be sold through the likes of JB Hi-Fi, Big W, and Harvey Norman.
