Tiny LG CineBeam S barely needs any space to project 100 inches

LG has launched its smallest 4K short-throw projector in Australia, the CineBeam S, which needs very little space to make a big image.

It seems to be the day for launching projectors, with LG’s announcement following Epson’s $7,299 projector this morning. Samsung also recently brought a new short-throw projector to local shores, one that doubles as an interactive screen.

LG’s CineBeam S, which follows on from the CineBeam Q projector, needs only 8.1cm to project a 40-inch image. For its maximum 100-inch picture, the projector requires just 39.3cm. You don’t need a massive surface to sit it on, either; the CineBeam S takes up a small 110 x 160 x 160mm footprint, while weighing a light 1.9kg.

Such convenience carries a $2,499 price tag in Australia, which is less than what you’d pay for a similar-sized TV. The main drawback is brightness. 500 ANSI lumens isn’t very bright, so this is definitely a nighttime-with-the-lights-off viewing device. Its max 60Hz refresh rate also limits its high-end gaming appeal, although plenty of console games target 60fps instead of 120fps anyway.

In the right conditions, the CineBeam S should give you a nicely coloured picture. LG advertises the projector as covering 154% of the cinema-grade DCI-P3 colour gamut, along with HDR10 and HLG support.

It also comes with webOS 24 installed, letting you stream media directly to the projector via the likes of Netflix and Binge. Apple AirPlay and Screen Share also enable casting content from other devices, while an HDMI and two USB-C ports support further connectivity.

Like its predecessor, the CineBeam S looks classy, too.

As an early bird treat, LG has a 20% pre-order discount on the CineBeam S until 10 August 2025, bringing the price down to $1,999. Afterwards, the projector officially goes on sale on 11 August.
