Multi-console gamers have a more affordable wireless headset to consider, after Logitech announced the Astro A20 X as part of its G Play event overnight.

When Logitech brought out the Astro A50 X in 2023, it was a big step forward for multi-console gaming. Each platform supports different wireless technologies, so finding one headset that worked with everything was a pain.

Logitech’s answer was to include a docking station with the A50 X. You could connect multiple consoles to the dock, and it beamed high-quality wireless audio to the headset. It came at a high price, however, costing a hefty $749 at launch.

Conversely, the new Astro A20 X is a more palatable $349 in Australia, with only a couple of practical trade-offs. Its Playsync dock supports two platforms simultaneously, instead of the A50 X’s three, and the connection is via USB-C instead of the higher-quality HDMI input.

But despite the considerably lower price, the A20 X has its advantages. The headset adds wired USB-C connectivity alongside Bluetooth and Logitech’s proprietary Lightspeed wireless technology. It’s also lighter, even though its battery lasts up to 70 hours, more than double the A50.

Specs-wise, the A20 X is almost identical to the $299 Logitech G522 headset from earlier in the year. Both have 24-bit wireless audio quality and a 48kHz mic based on the Logitech-owned Blue microphone division. Each headset also uses 40mm “Pro-G” audio drivers.

The main difference between the two, other than a slight price gap, is multi-device support. While the G522 is primarily a PC gaming headset, the Astro A20 X is for console gamers, hence the included dock. It still works with PCs, though.

Due out in Australia by mid-October, the Logitech G Astro A20 X could streamline multi-console gaming at a friendlier price.
