Three new Nanoleaf smart lights have arrived in Australia, each one drastically different to the last. One is a light-up pegboard that works as a dock and storage for your desk knick-knacks.
Of all the smart lights in the world, I didn’t expect an illuminated pegboard to feature among them. I shouldn’t be surprised; Nanoleaf did bring out a range of light-up wall shelving last year, so it’s not that outlandish, all things considered.
The $104.99 Nanoleaf pegboard isn’t just a fancy light that also happens to hold your peripherals. Its base doubles as a USB hub, charging connected devices. When plugged into a computer, the lighting syncs to mirror the on-screen visuals.
Nanoleaf’s two other smart lights bound for Australia — the Floor Lamp and PC Screen Mirror Lightstrip — also mirror the media you’re watching or playing. The $69.99 lightstrip fits monitors up to 32 inches in size, and plugs into a computer’s USB-C to produce a colour-matched glow. Similarly, the $149 floor lamp reacts to sound, with the option of adding screen mirroring when paired with a Nanoleaf 4D system.

Interestingly, neither the pegboard nor the lightstrip pairs with Nanoleaf’s mobile app. Both operate via a direct connection only, with customisation available via a desktop app. Nanoleaf’s floor lamp is the only one of the new devices to work with the phone app.
Each new smart light is available to order in Australia directly from Nanoleaf’s website. Do I need a light-up pegboard for my desk? Not exactly. Do I want it, though — that’s a completely different question.
