Classic games on Wii Virtual Console

From 11 April 2008, Virtual Console on Wii will host more than 200 classic games. Two of the latest additions, Wonder Boy and Fantasy Zone, herald the arrival of the SEGA Master System to Virtual Console for the first time, and brings the number of classic games on Virtual Console to 201.

Virtual Console is a back catalogue of videogames that only 20 years of gaming can deliver. Nintendo invites gamers of all ages to relive classic games, and allows new players to discover iconic favourites including the original Donkey Kong and Mario Bros. via Virtual Console.

Easy to access, Virtual Console is available by simply connecting your Wii to the internet. Once connected, from the Wii menu select the Wii Shop Channel and then choose Virtual Console. Download Virtual Console games with a Wii Points Card, or by purchasing Wii Points on your credit card via your Wii.

Classic games from the Nintendo Entertainment System, Super Nintendo Entertainment System, Nintendo 64, SEGA Mega Drive, Turbografx, NEOGEO and now SEGA Master System are all available on Virtual Console. SEGA Master System, the forerunner of the SEGA Mega Drive, now joins Virtual Console to expand the list of classic games available even further. SEGA Master System debuts on Virtual Console with the original Wonder Boy. As Tom-Tom the Wonder Boy, it’s up to you to rescue your girlfriend Tanya from the vile clutches of the monster that has kidnapped her. Navigate your way through a series of worlds in a race against time; downloadable for 500 points.

Fantasy Zone, also from SEGA Master System pits you as a living spaceship against wacky enemies. Take command of the spaceship Opa-Opa and blast your way through various levels as you try to take out all the enemy bases in each stage; download this classic game for 500 Wii Points.

Nintendo updates the Wii Shop Channel with Virtual Console games every Friday at 10 am Eastern Standard Time, so if your favourite classic game isn’t there yet, check back each week.
