Small room solutions

You don?t have to have a huge living room to enjoy a better home entertainment setup. David Hellaby samples some smaller digital TV solutions that are sure to fit right in.

In recent years there?s been a revolution in home entertainment. Flat panel display technology has really come of age, resulting in less expensive screens, not to mention some fantastic looking products. Favourable economic conditions have meant that people have more disposable income to invest in luxury items. And finally, with the popularity of CDs, DVD music and games consoles, people are looking to their living rooms for entertainment more ? and going out less. With these factors in mind, it makes sense that interest in home theatre is at an all time high.

However, countering these trends is a shift towards inner city apartment living ? particularly for single people or couples without children ? and the consequent reduction of space has deterred many from seeking a home theatre package. Fortunately, there are ways you can effectively install home theatre in a small room without dwarfing the space you have, while still enjoying a large image and surround sound. Flat screen plasma and LCD TVs take up much less space than their CRT and rear projection cousins, and with their 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio, you can view a large screen from a much closer distance. The widescreen also means that you can see movies the way they were intended to be seen onscreen.
