We are used to hearing what advertising tells us, but what do the vendors think about the future of consumer and semi-professional videomaking?
As we looked the list of camcorders currently available on the Australian market, the general direction in which vendors are heading became evident.
At the advanced end of the market the trend is well and truly HD, and, in general, tape still rules the roost over hard disk and DVD recording media.
The other thing that leapt out was that four vendors/manufacturers at this time dominate this end of the market, and all have new models due for release (an HDV Everio from JVC for example is, we believe, very close). So we thought we?d ask the vendors if they could tell us in just a few words what they think the future is. Here are their responses (with some editing necessary due to space limitations).
