Viewsonic to release an iPad competitor soon

There may not be a whole lot of competition against the iPad now, but prepare to get another Android tablet with Viewsonic’s ViewPad 7.

Spec-wise, this new tablet looks to be the middle-ground of what we’ve already seen released here. We’re seeing a 600MHz processor, microSD slot, 3G SIM card slot, Bluetooth 2.1, WiFi 802.11 b/g, and Android 2.2, making it close to what Telstra released recently with the T-Touch Tab.

Interestingly, Viewsonic has gone for a capacitive touchscreen offering multitouch gesture control, as well as a 3 megapixel camera on the back, giving it a few things in common with the high-end Samsung Galaxy Tab.

Given what we know about it and what is currently released, we wouldn’t be surprised if Telstra released this tablet as a midrange option for tablet buyers before Christmas.
