Apple Classbook and 9.7″ iPad targets the education market

Apple has announced its new Classbook app, a new 9.7-inch iPad with Apple Pencil support, and a suite of programs. All are designed to spark student creativity and inspire them to succeed.

Classbook helps teachers create assignments, see student progress and use apps in the classroom. It compliments Apple’s Classroom app, which is used in schools to help integrate iPad into the classroom.

‘Everyone Can Create’ is a free range of free learning resources and teaching guides. These help teachers easily weave drawing, music, filmmaking or photography into any lesson, topic or assignment. The new curriculum joins Apple’s successful ‘Everyone Can Code’ initiative.

iPad 9.7” supports optional Apple pencil

The new 9.7-inch iPad and Apple Pencil (extra cost) enables teachers and students to be more creative. It features a Retina display, the A10 Fusion chip, enhanced camera and sensors and has ‘all-day’ battery life.

“Creativity sparks a deeper level of engagement in students. We’re excited to help teachers bring out that creativity in the classroom,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing.

“When you combine the power of iPad, the creativity of Apple Pencil, over a million iPad apps in the App Store, the rich curriculum in Everyone Can Code and Everyone Can Create, and unique Classroom and Classbook apps that support students and help schools manage technology in the classroom, we believe we can amplify learning and creativity in a way that only Apple can.”

Classroom also comes to the Mac

Classroom is a teaching assistant. It helps teachers manage student iPads and guide them through lessons, keep on track and share work. It is now coming to the Mac.

Teachers can easily launch apps, books and web pages on all student devices at once or send and receive documents.

Classroom lets teachers view student screens during class. This helps students stay focused, assign shared iPads to specific students for class and even reset a student’s password. The Mac version of the app will be available in beta starting in June.
