Vodafone celebrates Chinese New Year with free calls

Are you a Vodafone customer? If you are, any friends you have in Asia might be lucky to receive a call from you, and you won’t have to stop talking until your mouth gets tired.

That’s because the telco has announced that it is ringing in the Chinese New Year with free calls to several Asian nations for four days.

It’s not a lot of time, sure, but Vodafone will be offering post-paid customers free calls to China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam from February 19 as part of its Chinese New Year celebration.

“Chinese New Year is a celebration of family,” said Vodafone’s Chief Marketing Officer Loo Fun Chee, adding that “it’s a very special time of year when people long to be close to their loved ones. We want to help our customers celebrate the festive season by making it easier for them to connect with their families.”

“By waiving the costs of international calls during Chinese New Year, customers will not have to think twice about the cost of phone calls to parents, siblings and the extended family,” said Chee.

The four days of free calls to Asia will only be there for post-paid customers over the course of February 19 to 22, but it joins a deal Vodafone started last week, whereby prepaid customers on the $30, $40 and $50 caps also get some free phone calls, with China, India, New Zealand, the UK, and the USA every weekend — including the Chinese New Year weekend — until April 26.

Prepaid customers will also see data charges removed for those weekends, giving them a little extra from 12am Saturday until 11.59pm Sunday every weekend until the 26th of April arrives.
