If it’s time to update your home security, Arlo is offering a massive $450 savings on its Ultra 2 security camera kit. The kit includes three Arlo Ultra 2 cameras and a base station, and costs RRP $999, down from RRP $1,449 after the discount.
The cameras are packed with features including amazing 4K detail, a 180 degree field of view, built-in LED spotlight, night vision and 2-way talk functionality. The Arlo base station is used to wirelessly connect the cameras together and link them to your home network.
Here’s our take on the Arlo Ultra 2’s features:
- 8MP/4K/HDR – frame rate depends on the signal strength and data transfer rate, and it can drop back to 2K, 1080p and 720p
- 180° FOV with fisheye distortion minimisation
- 12X zoom and motion follow
- Dual LED spotlights for colour night vision to about 5 metres
- IR 850nm LEDs for mono night vision
- Full-Duplex 2-way talk, dual mic and wind attenuation, siren
- USB-A to micro-USB 5V/2A adapter, approx. 3.5 hours charge in camera
- Battery life depends on activations – nominally six months. Solar panel available
- Bandwidth – about 2-4Mbps
- Weather-resistant
- HomeKit, Alexa, Google Assistant, and IFTTT
- One year ACL warranty
The offer is available from March 10 to March 27. Purchases can be made from the Arlo website.
Can I connect an arlo security system with a cat5 connection? Do I need any other power source? I want it to operate without the battery if possible.
Thanks
Hi Andrew, pretty sure that you can power an Arlo wireless camera unit with a cable by having the battery charging cable plugged in. You may also need to have the battery inside, however, we haven’t tried taking the battery out to see if just the power/recharge cable will keep it operating. In terms of network connection, there’s no Cat5 cable port so you’ll need to rely on WiFi for a data connection, or otherwise, a 4G/LTE SIM via the Arlo Go 2 model.
