One of the world’s most iconic places, the Louvre Museum in Paris was the venue for the launch of the OPPO Find X.
GadgetGuy Thomas Bartlett was in Paris at the launch and his hands-on is here. We just wanted to crow a little as the majority of our ‘leaked’ specifications were spot on.
Well OPPO Find X exceeds our expectations. It has not one, but two versions of the OPPO Find X. The second is a Automobili Lamborghini Edition, which includes Super VOOC. Très désirable given the launch location. Molto desiderabile given Lamborghini’s heritage.
No, it does not have a notch. It has the world’s first almost all screen, 6.42-inch, 19.5:9, AMOLED panoramic Arc screen. No one has come close to matching the 93.8% screen to body ratio. What that means is that all the earpiece and sensors are on a mini slide-out segment. The result is completely hole free front and rear. The slide mechanism should last at least 300,000 times. An average user may unlock their phone say, 100 times a day – ten years of use.
A 25MP selfie with 3D lighting for artistic portraits. From the photo above you will see the flood illuminator, range sensor, dot projector, receiver and camera all working to take the best selfies. And yes, it will turn you into a 3D emoji and place silly stickers all over your face.
A 16MP (f/2.0, PDAF, OIS) and 20MP (f/2.0) dual rear camera with AI Scene Recognition. It intelligently identifies scenes and objects to optimise the image. It supports over 20 photography scenarios and over 800 scenario combinations including snow, food, pets, and more.
The world’s fastest facial recognition. A 3D Structured light module projects 15,000 dots to build a precise and complete 3D model of a user’s face, with millimetre-level accuracy. OPPO says it has a false acceptance rate of 3D Face Recognition is 1/1,000,000 compared to fingerprint recognition is 1/50,000. It is so good it works for online payment verification.
Bordeaux Red and Glacier Blue. The Multifaceted Colour Process used by OPPO realises a perfect blend of gradient design with a 3D arc on the rear. In the light, the Find X shines, presenting a colourful effect that changes with your surroundings.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 mobile platform is the best system on a chip in 2018. It has advanced camera post-processing, gaming, an intelligent personal assistant and advanced vault-like security. It has 8GB RAM/256GB/micro storage as well a 3,750mAh battery and VOOC fast charge.
Talk to me
Google Assistant and the smart low-power-consumption MIC with DSP module. This means OPPO Find X can not only identify the magnitude of ambient noise intelligently but can also adjust the performance automatically to ensure high activation success rate for Google Assistant.
Of course, it has Android 8.1, Colour OS 5.1 AI and all the smarts you would expect. It is a dual sim and has Qualcomm’s world modem.
Automobili Lamborghini Edition
We are not sure of all the difference in the limited Automobili Lamborghini Edition. Thomas indicated that it has the distinctive Lambo Black and Yellow stallion, real carbon-fibre back, 512GB storage, and even faster USB-C charging – 0-100% in 35 minutes. Standard VOOC is about 90 minutes.
OPPO Find X price and availability
We only have indicative Euro pricing but expect the Find X to be under A$1,500.
As for the Lambo. It is one of those don’t ask the price – about €1,700 (A$2,700).
We are one of the first to get a review unit – stay tuned for details. It is coming to Australia soon.
