Sennheiser GSP 600 gaming headset – go for gold

The GSP 600 reflects Sennheiser’s 70-year history as an esteemed, established, headphone and loudspeaker maker. It is not the first brand that comes to mind for gamers yet as it puts it #TheSoundGamesAreMadeOf is all important.

The new GSP 600 costs A$399.95 and works with PC, mac and consoles. Sennheiser says it represents the next level of sound unlocked.

It has a closed back and over-the-ear isolation means deep bass while still delivering well-controlled mid and high frequencies.  It handles up to Dolby 7.1 sound. Sennheiser also has an open back GSP 500 GSP 500 if you need to hear your surrounds as well.

GSP 600Ear pads are made from a cool suede-like material that prevents sticking to the skin. Overall weight is 395g.

The broadcast quality mic has noise cancelling and mutes simply by flipping it up.

It can handle 112dB – the equivalent of a screaming child or front-row concert and exceeds human hearing with 10-30,000Hz frequency response. The microphone as 47dBV/PA and will accurately “hear” sound from 10-18,000Hz.

It has dual 3.5 mm (3-pole connectors) 1 x 3.5 mm (4-pole connectors).

Sennheiser prides itself on having Exchangeable parts – spare earpads, cables, and cover plates so it will have a long life.

    So this headset supports dolby 7.1 surround sound ?

      You can’t physically get 7.1 sound via a 3.5mm headphone jack – it transmits left/right speakers and mic. What you can do is get simulated 7.1 sound to give a feeling of spacial awareness – front, side, behind, above, below. A lot depends on the game (it needs to be encoded for 7.1) and your sound card needs to support it. If both are right it is very realistic.
