LG QNED MiniLED 2021 range shines brightly

LG QNED MiniLED 2021

The LG QNED MiniLED 2021 range comprises 4K and 8K models from 65 to 86”. QNED MiniLED sits above LGs Nanocell Quantum Dot LCD TVs and below its premium OLED TVs.

MiniLED is a new technology that using thousands of miniLEDs as the backlight. Compared to a traditional Quantum Dot LCD (NanoCell) TV it offers more brightness and diming controls. GadgetGuys MiniLED guide demystifies the marketing jargon.

Given that MiniLED is brighter, it is best suited to great Aussie open space lounges. LG is one of the better companies in disclosing the number of miniLEDs. Our strongest advice is that all brands of MiniLED TVs don’t perform the same.

LG QNED MiniLED 2021 TV models use thousands of Mini LED lights to deliver bright and clear images. Depending on size they have between 960 to 2,400 individual dimming zones. This provides precise backlight control and ultra-high contrast ratios.

The LG 86-inch 8K QNED TV (86QNED99) is backlit by nearly 28,000 LED lights, arranged in 2,400 local dimming zones. The result – a greater level of contrast and brightness with more accurate colour reproduction than LG NanoCell and UHD TVs.

Is MiniLED an OLED killer?

Far from it – where MiniLED pushes the boundaries of LED/LCD TV technology, there is no substitute for OLED where an 8K TV has over 33 million pixels – each of which can individually be on or off. MiniLED is lower cost than OLED.

Should I buy 8K?

There are enough global standards now to ensure that your TV won’t be an orphan technology. There is a lack of native 8K content – these sets do a great job of 8K upscale from 1080p or 4K.

Why LG QNED MiniLED 2021?

You will see many MiniLEDs coming to market – some with as little as half the number of LEDs. LGs secret sauce is that it has married Quantum Dot (NanoCell colour) and a brighter light source with its extremely powerful α9 (Alpha) Gen4 (8K) and α7 Gen4 (4K) AI processors, which integrate deep learning technology to upscale picture, so content looks sharp and detailed.

Dolby Vision IQ intelligently adjusts for content and lighting conditions to deliver professionally mastered vision and sound.
